How is yours looking? Dehydrated, a little discoloured with pigmentation or maybe lacking a glow? No, no, I haven’t been spying on you this summer but I do have some intel that all of us (me included!!) have a tendency to let our routines slip at this time of year. As September in the Clinic sees a rise in skin issues post-summer let me explain why and let’s help you get back on track.

Here’s the thing with skincare. Once you break a habit or routine it’s hard to get back into it — so let me entice you with some skincare gems to add to your routine or remind you to include them again. Remember, you’re only likely to put more effort in if the process is easy or you see positive results. So here goes.

In the Summer we are often outside so exposed to more intense UV, sand from beaches, salt or chlorinated water. Of course we are all applying our SPF regularly (we hope) and while it protects the skin it has the potential to cause blocked pores if we are not using mineral formulations, or not cleansing adequately.

Ingredients to focus on are acids such as lactic, Salicylic and AHAs plus retinols and vitamin C

Cleansing – I am turning a blind eye to Facial wipes you have used this Summer! (yes I know they are easier for hand luggage and festivals) but now you’re home make sure you select the best cleanser for your skin type. If you prefer a facial wash Environ’s low foam cleanser is ideal or for a creamier and hydrating cleanser try Alumier’s Hydraboost

Exfoliate – To remove dead skin cells that leave your skin looking dull. Using products containing salicylic & lactic acids or AHAs (fruit acids) will clear pores, brighten skin and allow for you actives to penetrate the skin. We have several options for chemical (non-granular) exfoliation, it just depends on your price points and ease of use.

Alumier Bright & Clear is a great daily ‘toner’ containing lactic and salicylic acids AHA renewal serum is an exfoliating AHA serum that enhances cell renewal, visibly revealing a smoother, brighter, and more even complexion.
